Sarah Scoggins Vocalist (Member since February 2006)
Sarah Scoggins hails from Silsbee, Texas where she was a member of the outstanding SHS choir under the direction of Terry Woodall. Sarah was a member of the Texas All-State Choir three years, and the top “first chair” member her senior year. Upon graduation from high school, Sarah enrolled at Lamar University on a choral scholarship and is majoring in music education with a vocal emphasis. Sarah sang in the elite regional vocal ensemble, Brilliance beginning in 2006. At Lamar University, she has been a member of the A Cappella Choir, the Treble Choir, the Grand Chorus, and the Cardinal Singers.
Her many on-campus performances, coupled with those around the area brought Sarah to the attention of Brenda Griner, director of the LU Spirit Team. Since her sophomore year, Sarah was a featured vocalist for the annual Lamar University Spirit Team show, Cabaret du Revue. Since the LU Jazz Band was also involved in those spring shows, director Dyess soon asked Sarah to sing with the college jazz band. Sarah was a featured vocalist with the Lamar Jazz Ensemble at the Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi, and has shared the stage with jazz legend BILL HOLMAN in Lamarissimo Jazz 2006. When the Night & Day Orchestra was formed it was a natural progression for Sarah to become our featured female vocalist. She has become a seasoned pro in just a few short years. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this young vocal talent. Sarah Scoggins is the new Choir Director at Cedar Bayou Junior High, in the Goose Creek Independent School District in Baytown, Texas. Bill Keating Vocalist (Member since April 2008)
Bill Keating is originally from Winnie, but has lived in Beaumont for the past 23 years. He has been a member of the five-man a capella group--the Continentals for over 25 years. As a vocalist for the group, he developed a keen ear for harmonies and rhythms. The Continentals have performed professionally at numerous weddings, festivals, parties, churches and even ski resorts--once, outdoors on the mountain top. A favorite venue has always been on a street corner as they have done locally and in Austin and Branson. The past 5 years have been spent, musically, as a guitarist and vocalist for the contemporary Christian band, Altar Ego. The band plays at Wesley Methodist Church in Beaumont and is comprised of highly experienced professional musicians. The Keating name has become synonomous with the car business in Southeast Texas and Bill has been a part of it working at Keating Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in Winnie for many years and now working in a new venture--Keating Enterprises--financing cars and trucks in Winnie. "Bill has a distinctive sound and a wonderful sense of timing for our big band style", says NDO leader Wayne Dyess. "I dropped into the car dealership looking for a car and came out with a new singer for the band! Not a bad deal."
